WATER RESISTANCE ON YOUR WATCH!

Water resistant

If your watch is not said to be waterproof, treat it like a piece of paper. Water can do terrible things to it. If it mentions some vague kind of water resistance, still avoid getting it wet. Splashes are fine, but it’s definitely not a good idea to soak or bathe with it—especially since hot shower steam can do worse to your watch’s seals than water.

Water Resistant 30 Meters / 3 Atmospheres / 3 Bar

If your watch claims to be water resistant to a depth of 30 meters, it is actually only splash resistant. It does NOT mean the watch will be fine if you take it 30 meters below sea level. While it may be possible that your watch can survive a very short trip under very careful conditions in very calm water, you are better off not rolling the dice.

Water Resistant 50 Meters/5 Atmospheres/5 Bar

So you have a watch with 50 meters of water resistance. Congratulations, you are hereby permitted to swim with it. However, you should minimize water exposure and may still take it off. And in no way should you dive with your watch. 50 meters depth will not help.

Water Resistant 100 Meters / 10 Atmospheres / 10 Bar

This is snorkeling territory. Watches with 100 meters of water resistance will have no problem being used in the water for a while, and will even be fine for extended snorkeling trips. Diving, however, should still be out of the question.

Water Resistant 200 Meters / 200 Atmospheres / 20 Bar

Although it seems like it, this is actually not diving watch territory. While 200 meters seems like a ton of leeway for diving, even going down 10 meters, it's probably best not to risk it. But of course, do a few laps in the pool with this. But only press the buttons with your wrist above the water.-Thrillist
