The First Watch Was a Piece of Rock!

Although historians believe that the Sumerians were the first to record time in 2000 BC, the earliest evidence of using physical objects to keep time comes from the ancient Egyptians. What they did was carve large stone obelisks that would be placed in specific locations. As the sun moved, so did the shadow of the stone.
